My Fair Lair

These are the thoughts that keep me from making progress in life.

Onward!

Hooray for the promise of a New Year!

Chuck and I spent a quiet countdown this year – there were some events going on locally, but somehow I was not enticed to attend anything. Wisconsin’s population already drinks pretty heavily, and I’d hate to see when people are given carte blanche to booze up because it’s a super special occasion – also drunk drivers scare me, so staying in was good, safe times.

The Midwest New Year’s countdown was a bit weird, I must say. Obviously we’re not in the same time zone as the NYC celebration, which is what networks seem to usually broadcast, so I wondered if we’d see the countdown an hour before it was actually midnight here. Well, if what I saw was correct, they got to about 10 PM and started broadcasting infomercials, then played the NYC countdown’s last hour or so starting at 11. How awkward! What do even more west-lying areas do on New Year’s, I wonder?

To hopefully attract good fortune to ourselves in 2009, yesterday we had a symbolic dinner of lentils and spinach, for money, with noodles, for long life. I also whipped up some spinach (money again) and artichoke dip as a snack, and I polished off the bottle of Barefoot sparkling white zinfandel from the night before with pomegranate arils floating in it. How posh I am.

I’m not sure if I really have anything I want to resolve to do this year, besides pay off one of Chuck’s student loans (which I already projected that I should be able to do in the next 6 months). Since I improved my breadmaking skills and made yogurt for the first time in 2008, maybe in 2009 I’ll try to make cheese, wine, or tempeh at home… or maybe all three if I get the time and money. I also would like to start experimenting with fiberglass for cosplay purposes – I think I have to wait til spring to really do anything, but I suppose I can shop around locally for supplies so I’ll be ready when the temps ease up a bit.

In the meantime, I’ve purchased tickets for that February 5th showing of Sword of the Stranger, so I guess I’m being a better fan in 2009? We shall see.

LiveJournal lured me into upgrading, so I'm trying out this new theme. No big changies.

Christmas was pretty awesome and restful! I spent the four-day weekend playing MarioKart and WiiFit. I haven't done something like that in years, so it was a welcome revisitation of my leisurely youth. New Years' will probably be similar, since I declined to attend the meetup going to Oneida Casino (live music, buffet dinner, etc.) and can't think of anything else to do that is out-and-about. Watching the countdown from home is okay by me!

Stolen from [info]ghostfaceposta  - no big surprise there's alot of stuff about my wedding. Criminy, I never wanted to be that bride, but it's really hard to avoid talking about something that CONSUMES YOUR LIFE for that long.
In case I don't post before the New Year, I hope all of you who read my LJ and whose LJs I read in turn have made my year very interesting and at times damned entertaining. Thanks - see you next year!
